Located on the highest point in the city, this magnificent basilica has been a symbol of faith and hope for generations.
Built between 1875 and 1914, this impressive building was designed by architect Paul Abadie in a Romano-Byzantine style. The exterior features two large bell towers that stand out against the skyline, while its interior boasts an amazing mosaic ceiling with stunning stained-glass windows. It also houses several works of art, including paintings by French masters such as Delacroix and Renoir.
The Basilique du Sacré Coeur de Montmartre is not only known for its beauty, but also for its spiritual significance. Every day, hundreds of visitors come here to pray or just admire the architecture from outside or inside. In addition, every evening at 10 pm mass takes place during which pilgrims can listen to beautiful religious songs performed by local choirs – something you definitely don’t want to miss.
Sacré Coeur is also home to many important historical events – especially those related to World War I when it served as a refuge for soldiers injured in battle who were cared for by nuns from nearby convents. During World War II, it became a symbol of resistance against Nazi occupation forces and today still stands proudly atop Montmartre hill overlooking Paris like a beacon shining into eternity.
