Zum hohen Haus (The Tall House)

This impressive building stands proudly in the old town and has been a part of the city’s history for centuries.

Located on Marktstätte, The Tall House was constructed in 1558 by Konrad Wiederholt. It was originally built as a watchtower and served as an important defence structure during times of war. The house has five stories, with each floor having its own unique design. Its most distinctive feature is its tall spire that towers over the other buildings in the area.

The interior of The Tall House contains several artefacts from Konstanz’s past, including paintings, furniture, and sculptures from different eras. There are also two galleries that showcase works from local artists throughout history. Visitors can explore these galleries to learn more about Konstanz’s culture and heritage before heading up to take in stunning views from the top floor balcony overlooking Lake Constance.

Today, The Tall House serves as a museum, where visitors can discover its rich history through guided tours led by knowledgeable guides who share stories about its past inhabitants and their contributions to Konstanz’s development over time. With such an interesting background story, it’s no wonder why this site remains popular among tourists today.
